Flora & Fauna

Top: J. Crew
Skirt: LOFT
Headband: Nordstrom B.P.
Heels: Madden Girl via T.J. Maxx
Bag: Dooney & Bourke via my grandma
Necklace: Faux pearls via my mom

I wore this outfit to the annual Chi Omega Eleusenia Luncheon where we (the Chi Omegas from Oregon State) meet with the Chi Omegas from University of Oregon. Isn't their house beautiful?! I'm actually jealous. We have a nice house, but they have a fantastic house! The architecture is to die for.

Standing In The Sun

Shirt: Nordstrom men's via Goodwill (similar shirt)
Belt: Old Navy
Jeans: Levi's Outlet
Watch: Michael Kors via Nordstrom (similar watch)
Shoes: Sperry Topsider via Nordstrom

At first I thought this outfit was totally an 80s throw back to maternity tops, but actually it's a revelation. Men's shirts are so comfortable! Finally a garment that has shoulders. I've always been peeved about the women's garment industry failing to recognize women that live on the outskirts of the "normal" body type curve. It just bothers me when clothing companies can't find it in their hearts to make an extra large. I'm not that big, am I? I like to think that there's not that much "extra" to my "large." Maybe I'm just focusing on stores like H&M and Forever21, but I'm entering the fashion industry with the goal of implementing size integration. Every woman has the right to purchase clothes that fit and make her feel beautiful. And the first step is making those clothes accessible.

Anyway, to a more lighthearted topic: these photos were taken by my good friend Julie Ruppert! But I decided to edit them a bit for some interesting effects on a website I discovered: befunky. I'm been going through a bit of a blogging slump lately, mostly due to the weather but also I'm still coming off of my spring break hangover. It's so hard to get back into the swing of things when the break simply wasn't long enough. But don't fret! I'm buying a tripod this weekend! I've been working on the Quinn post and whole other list of ideas! Including DIY. And I'm revamping the layout. This is gonna be good.

Happy Thursday!

My Ice Cream is Bigger Than Your Ice Cream

When: April 4, 2011

What:
Cardigan: Nordstrom B.P.
Blouse: Oldnavy via Goodwill
Skirt: J. Crew
Wedges: Nine West via Piperlime

Where: Monday night dinner at the lovely Chi-O house

Today I had a "Magnum" ice cream bar. Although, I decided that the more appropriate name would be "The Vinny (from Jersey Shore)." Seriously, who names ice cream "Magnum?" That's both pornographic and intimidating, neither of which I want my ice cream to be. They could've at least gone with something like "Ecstasy" or "Fire & Ice cream."

Nautical Nonsense

When: March 31, 2011

What:
Sweater: Lucky Brand
Jeans: Levi's
Shoes: Sperry Topsiders via Nordstrom
Bag: J. Crew
Earrings: DIY (more on that later)

Where: To classes and around campus

Hey friends! Sorry I've been slow getting back into the blogosphere. I feel like I'm still on spring break. I keep getting distracted by DIY ideas, and potential outfits, and jobs I'm applying to, and I remember, these things are really cool and that I should share. Sharing is caring, right? Also, after a long winter, I just rediscovered this thing called sun.

In Oregon, when the sun comes out and the temperature reaches anything above 60 degrees Fahrenheit, half the campus breaks out the shorts and sandals. I'm serious. I'm all over the nautical look this season, and I have been for pretty much my whole life. The night before I made these adorable little fish earrings (which I will do a post on later so you can see them is full aquatic glory), and decided to continue with the nautical mindset by adding stripes with a boatneck and topsiders. Perfect! And it was comfortable to boot. Now all I need is a day at the beach.

The weather recently has been fantastic! I am so ready to start planning outfits that don't involve a jacket. I feel like I'm at a California school. Also, I wanted to share with you the song I'm loving right now! "Next 2 You," by Chris Brown (feat. Justin Bieber).

Have a great weekend!

Bryn & Beau

Meet my sassy sister! This is Bryn and her/our dog Beau. Technically Beau is her dog, but he loves us all, so we share. Bryn is sixteen years old and Beau is one. Here Bryn is wearing a Jessica Simpson blazer from Cupcake Couture, black Vigoss jeans from Nordstrom, boots also from Nordstrom, and earrings from Anne Bocci Boutique. Bryn's style is a mixture of equestrian and rocker. She says her signature is "boots." Beau opts for the scruffy look with shaggy hair and a studded collar. They are a match made in badass heaven.

Vamos, Rafa!

World's biggest Rafa fan!
My real outfit.

When: March 8, 2011

What:
Top photo:
Hat: Nike
Jacket: Nike (belongs to Paul, which explains the size)

Bottom photo:
Cardigan: J. Crew
Jeans: Levi's
Tank top: Nordstrom B.P.
Belt: Anne Klein via TJ Maxx

Where: Nike Clash of the Champions, Eugene, OR

Why: It's professional tennis. It's a clapping sport. And like any clapping sport (as apposed to chanting sports like football), it is appropriate to look preppy. So that's what I did. I wore Jack Purcells, because to me they are the classic tennis shoe. I woke up yesterday morning and picked out two cardigans. I turned to Victoria and asked, "ok, which one, green or yellow?... oh, darn!" First of all, I don't actually say "darn" but for the purposes of remaining PG now I do. I unconsciously picked duck colors. I ended up going with green. Which was great, because that's what Nadal was wearing.

If you don't know anything about professional tennis, not much of this will probably make sense. I am a HUGE Nadal fan. For my Make A Wish, I wanted to meet him, but my advisors told me that I may meet him for only a few minutes. So, I went with something a little more involved, like going to New York City. More on that later, I promise.

At this event, there were appearances by Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka, Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Also, there was a surprise guest appearance by none other than John McEnroe! He received a standing ovation from the crowd. Sharapova and Azarenka played a set, which Azarenka won. After which, she was proposed to by a fan. She demanded that the ring be bigger than Sharipova's. Then, my favorite part, was when the players teamed up for mixed doubles. Federer and Sharipova vs. Nadal and Azarenka. Yellow vs. Green. The players were miked so we could hear all of their comments. Then, through some coaxing, they were able to get McEnroe to be the umpire and he asserted that he "had never stooped so low." He proceeded to give the players a hard time. The tennis was great, but the camaraderie between the players was better. I was really able to get a perspective that these athletes are real people. Yellow team won the mixed doubles. Then, Nadal and Federer played a set, which Nadal won. Everyone won a set, one way or another. I had such a great time, especially because it was with Paul. Ha ha, I call him "Paul Nadal" sometimes. A girl can dream...

Collegiate Cute

When: March 5, 2011

What:
Cardigan: Gap
Shirt: Gap
Jeans: Levi's
Belt: Anne Klein via TJ Maxx
Shoes: Jack Purcell via Nordstrom

Where: Out and about in downtown Corvallis

Why:  I decided that I needed to do a "weekendi" look (yeah, Kendi's name has cute puns and mine doesn't, so I just steal hers). Something comfy, casual, and cute (that's Amber's motto). This look is totally preppy collegiate and I love it! I am in love with my Jack Purcells. It's kind of funny, because my mom wore Jack Purcells back in college. I'm carrying on the legacy. Forget the chucks, I have jacks.

We got up Saturday morning and went looking for a local flea market. Well, it doesn't exist. So, we did the next best thing, and went to the local consignment shop (which is the closest thing we get to a mall here), Second Glance, and shopped away. They are proud supporters of the Oregon State University Fashion Organization (OSUFO), and they mentioned that they want to display some recycled fashions in the window. We traded contact info, and perhaps we'll be seeing the music dress on display!

Right now, I am working for spring break. This year, the break will be a staycation, and that's ok, as long as I get a reprieve from the toil! I know you're all working hard too. Keep it up, it's worth it.

Power Animal

When: March 1, 2011

What:
Blazer: Mossimo Target via Goodwill
Top: Nordstrom B.P.
Skirt: H&M
Heels: madden girl via TJ Maxx

Where: To an interview for OSU Office of Admissions TOUR Ambassadors

Why: Readers, I'd like to introduce you to my new nude pumps. They are my new crush (sorry, Paul). I threw this outfit together before my interview. According to the weather, I should totally be wearing tights, but I feel like it's wrong to wear tights with nude pumps. They are nude. They should match my skin, which looks pink, but that's beside the point. Because I am lacking in the "business casual" department, I paired a flowy summer top and covered with a blazer.

The interview went well! I have no idea where I stand, because there were so many qualified and well spoken candidates. Worst case scenario, I met some really cool adults that run campus recruitment. They all had senses of humor, which I totally dug.

I got a laugh from one of the interviewers when I switched from my heels to topsiders after the interview. I was working business up top, party on the bottom. That's how I do.
