Get Lucky

My roommate and I have seriously been listening to Get Lucky by Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams on repeat.  It's pretty much our theme song.  

On Monday I took a test run to my internship location in Notting Hill.  I took the Hammersmith & City Line to Ladbroke Grove.  

In England they don't typically use the word "Exit" they say "Way out."

While walking around amidst the school kids in blazers and ties, I noticed some calla lilies, my favorite flower, which I took as a good sign. Notting Hill is incredibly beautiful with red brick, green trees and flowers, and birds chirping.  

Finally, I stumbled across Trinity Mews, where my work is located.  I couldn't keep from grinning when I saw the arching sign over the gate.  I had been lost for 45 mins and finding my way back to the Tube when I saw it.  The building is an old stable that has been converted to a fashion showroom where I will be working starting on Monday.  

My roommate, who we call Tepper (her last name), and I met up and went to get phones in Islington.  As dedicated iPhone users, we went for the cheapest option and still carry around our American phones.  We call this one our "fake phone" or "play phone." When we were at the store we were making conversation with our cashier, a younger man named Calum, and he was asking us where we were working.  Tepper talked about the production company she's interning for on "Gooch street." Calum's eyes bugged out, making the funniest face I have seen in a long time. Tepper had meant to say Googe Street.  After some coaxing he told us that gooch is similar to "crundle" or "taint" in America. Ha ha ha... oops.

Across the street we went shopping.  Here is a pillow I want to recreate from the cutest, preppiest British store ever: Jack Wills.  Their motto is "Fabulously British."  We had to ask what their logo was, at first we thought it looked like a dinosaur with a top hat and cane, it's actually a pheasant. :P

After a long afternoon of shopping on Oxford Street, Tepper and I hit up The Court on Tottenham Court Road for some fish and chips and cider.  The song Get Lucky came on while we were eating.  We joked about how in Britain you don't leave a tip so we feel like we're stealing!  At this place, you order at the bar and pay before you get your food.  When I asked the bartender how big the fish and chips were (as in the difference between a small order and large order) he told me that the large was "approximately 255 grams."  That's supposed to mean something to an American? Ha ha.  It was delicious.  I plan on sampling many different fish and chip venues while I'm here. This one I would definitely return to. Except I didn't eat the peas... I hate peas!

Why: Can it please be spring now? Tomorrow is the first official day of spring and I decided to jump the gun by wearing some floral and pastel colors. Although the roses aren't in bloom, there were some other beautiful flowers to at least make it look like spring even though the weather disagrees. I was tired of wearing jeans so I grabbed this dress, with tights, it feels like I'm in pajamas. Perfect. I love the denim jacket! It's the first one I've ever owned and this is the first time I've worn it even though I've had it since August. I just needed a little inspiration. I like the boots with this outfit, but I'm not sure if I love them. They were great considering that the area was muddy and they aren't super nice, but perhaps next time I would try a springier shoe. 

Tomorrow I am shopping with my mom! I went to the mall yesterday with Paul to shop for him and do my first research run. Ha ha, I needed to scope around what I like so I don't go too insane with lust. I found a bunch of things I love at J. Crew. Hopefully I'll be bringing back some new things to show you! I think I deserve it, since all the shopping I have in Corvallis is Goodwill and TJ Maxx. That's also why I can't give you many links to the items I wear, because they're all remixed from past seasons. And we all know how quickly the fashion industry moves.

Tripod Oo la la

Why: Before I talk about my outfit, one thing first: my dad is loaning me his tripod! Aren't these pictures great? I feel like being able to shoot on manual, and go at my own pace, I got much better photos for you all! It was so much fun! I may not have many more outfits for the rest of the term (nothing is happening but finals), but hopefully I'll get my own tripod and my photos will get that much better. 


Honestly, this is the first thing I thought of this morning. I'm not completely satisfied with this outfit, but it's can be kind of like a rough draft, right? That's what's great about clothes: mixing and matching! And I definitely want to mix and match more things into my wardrobe, so I've decided not to give up shopping for lent. I think that choosing that would be setting myself up for failure. So, now I'm throwing around the idea of giving up drinks other than water. That includes coffee, that includes alcohol, that includes crystal light. Someone was talking to me today and she was like, "What about carbonated drinks?" I responded, "I can only have water, but I suppose I could have carbonated water." She proceeded, "What about pop?" Me: "Um, no, I can only have water." It's kind of sad how our generation doesn't realize how important water really is, and how some people live their lives only searching for that one thing: clean water. 


I have to decide what I'm giving up by Tuesday (otherwise known as Fat Tuesday). I hope some of you bloggers out there will do Mardi Gras outfits! Turns out Mardi Gras isn't a holiday all about plastic beads and flashing your chest. It's actually a Catholic holiday signifying the last day before lent. Purple symbolized justice, green is faith, and yellow is power- the Rex Parade, an organization of the School of Design chose the colors. Win for design.

Why: I'm not a believer in the "wearing jeans to church is OK" theory. I wouldn't necessarily call this my "Sunday best," but church is special and I want to look nice. So here you go. I haven't been to church in awhile (a long while), it's something I've fallen out of the habit of, but I'm trying to get back into it now that I've found some friends that are of the same faith as me. And I'm finally at the age that I can appreciate the service, instead of doodling in the songbook. 


It was interesting, today's mass was about worrying and giving up anxiety. This week my goal is to worry less by focusing on what is going on my life at that moment. We'll see how that goes. I'm also thinking of giving up shopping for lent. It seems like a brilliant idea, because it's something I really enjoy, but also very, very challenging. And what really constitutes shopping? Is it looking at things, or is shopping all in the purchase? If you have some idea, let me know. 


I'm looking forward to this coming week. On Tuesday I have an interview to be a campus tour guide for prospective students, so get ready to see an interview outfit! And Thursday is the fashion show. I bought some nude pumps this weekend that I'm planning on styling with a gold brocade skirt! I can't wait to show you all the fashion show piece too! Get ready for an awesome week, we're going to start it off right. 

Snow White

Where: To classes and out in the snow! 

Why: If you've ever been in Oregon snow, rain boots are a must. The snow is usually short lived, so snow boots aren't really necessary unless you're a mountain dweller. Although, there are some pretty sassy Sorel boots out there. Wearing this sweater I was so warm! It was all I needed. I was going for the winter white here. Now that I look back, I would have liked to style this outfit with a skinny black belt around the waist and either some pearls or a chunky scarf, depending on my mood. Unfortunately, I will probably never do that because I just found out that I'm allergic to wool, and this is 18%. If it's 100% I get a rash, but this just made my whole body itchy. I get itchy just thinking about it. So, I will either be consigning this sweater or giving it my mom (she would look beautiful in it). Now, all I have is a picture to show me fond memories of its beauty. 

The groundhog lied. Early spring my ass. Although, today (Wednesday) is sunny and freezing. I can get a tan if I sit indoors by a window. So I guess spring is on its way, but that groundhog needs to get off the shrooms. 

Don't judge me for this, but last night I saw the Justin Bieber movie and I LOVED it. Every second of it. It was well put together, and J.B. is a true talent. Think what you want, but don't try to argue with me about it. I am woman that is smitten and unswayable.

Why: Honestly, I've worn this outfit more than once. I wanted to wear it again so I could show you all! I called this outfit classic rock, because without the shoes, it's just "classic." I get told a lot that I'm classy, but prim and proper are two things that I am not. I like a little edge to my class, and here it is. I know you're seeing a lot of these boots, so I hope you aren't getting wary, because you'll just have to deal with it. I am in a love affair with these boots. And the skirt I call "a Marilyn" because I was in New York City last summer and totally caught a breeze. 

I am exhausted. We have been SLAVING over Recycled Fashion show dress. I know this is my outfit from Monday, but as I type it is the end of Tuesday, and we just finished the dress. But I've decided, I'm not showing you any pictures until the fashion show happens! Ha, let's see if I can keep my excitement in check. 

Also, today I rediscovered the double shot of espresso. Magic in a can, need I say more?  

Mixed Neutrals

Where: Out to dinner at Local Boyz for my suite mate Amber's 19th birthday! 

Why: I got this dress over the weekend when I was in Portland, and I'm so glad I bought it! I've thought of a ton of different combos! This is what I did to dress it up for winter. I loved doing mixed neutrals: navy, gray, and brown. It all came together so nicely. This outfit made me feel great. (You can't really see my earrings, but they're adorable leaf earrings!) 

So the end of the week is upon us. My friends Flynn, Palmer and I (we are the ones with unique names) are just finishing up our Recycled Fashion Show 2011: Dumpsters to Diamonds entry. Look for photos on my portfolio page soon! 

And tomorrow Paul is coming to town for the Chi Omega masquerade ball! Expect photos this weekend. Next week is going to be hectic, I have a slew of deadlines falling on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, but it will all be worth it, because I will have some beautiful projects to share with you all.

Rich & Sassy

Why: I didn't bring many clothes home for the weekend, so I threw together something comfortable yet still special. I feel like a total Oregonian in these boots! Paul and I ended up going to Famous Dave's, and let me tell you, that was a trip. The place is baby central. There are people feeding their children coleslaw which the children proceed to spit out onto the table. Other children are walking and eating corn simultaneously. It was a germaphobe's nightmare. Somehow, I expected more from a BBQ joint, but Paul kindly reminded me that that's a bit naive. It was also naive to wear white to a BBQ place. Later, we came back to my house and I goaded the reluctant Paul into playing Battleship, which he enjoyed. Win.


(PS: "Rich & Sassy" is Famous Dave's "go to sauce." Ha ha, I approve.)
